The Pauquunaukit Wampanoag (anglicized as Pokanoket, literally, "land at the clearing" in Natick) is an indigenous group in present-day Rhode Island and Massachusetts. As of 2017, the Pokanoket Tribe was not recognized by the federal government, the state of Rhode Island, or by the other federally recognized Wampanoag communities.
