Biratnagar (Devanāgarī: विराटनगर; the industrial capital of Nepal) is the second largest city of Nepal which serves as the capital of Province No. 1 of the nation. Named after King Virata (character from the Sanskrit epic of Mahabharata, the in-law of Arjuna), parts of the city is thought to be associated with the greatest of kingdoms involved in the pre-historic battle of Mahabharata. Today, it serves as an entrance point to a manifold of majestic destinations of Eastern Nepal as well as the North-Eastern India. Consequently, Biratnagar is the second city of the nation to have connected with the Indian Railways.
